Does Paramount use all-natural or green products?
In some instances, or by request only. The reason for this is because we have not found “natural” or “green” products to be nearly as effective as synthetics. However, our process and approach to pest control is as “green” as it gets. We only apply materials when necessary to areas of live pest activity based on our inspections and monitoring devices. We will never adopt a “spray and pray” philosophy by arbitrarily broadcasting pesticides all over your home. Effective, preventative pest control is achieved through ongoing inspection, the targeted and judicious application of materials only when and where necessary, and the identification and correction of conditions conducive to pests.
How does a Paramount Home Pest Protection Plan (HPP) work?
Each HPP service always begins with our technician knocking on your door and/or ringing your doorbell to announce themselves and ask if you would like indoor service. If you are having a pest problem inside your home, just let your dedicated Paramount professional know, and he/she will inspect and safely address the issue.
Indoor service includes visual inspection for evidence of pests, targeted treatment of live pest activity (if necessary), removal of trapped rodents as needed, inspection and/or placement of rodent traps as needed, and inspection/replacement off pest monitors as needed.
Whether or not you request indoor service, your scheduled HPP visits will always include visual inspection and preventative treatment (weather-allowing) for the control of covered pests around the exterior foundation of your home. If you are not home for an HPP visit, exterior inspection and treatment (weather allowing) will still be provided.
What should I do to prepare for a Paramount pest control service?
All we ask is that the areas of concern are safely accessible to our technician when he/she arrives at your property. If our technician has any recommendations, he/she will let you know onsite and/or it will be recorded on your service report. If you are receiving a service that does require preparations (i.e., bed bugs, termites, heavy pest infestations), then you will be sent an instructive document detailing how you can help us ensure safe and effective treatment.

General Pest Control FAQ’s
Is a license needed to perform pest control?
People that apply pesticides for a business in New York must be certified by the Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). New York State pesticide applicator certification mandates training to ensure the safe and proper application of pesticides with minimal risk to humans and the environment.
Individuals may become certified in New York State as commercial pesticide applicators, commercial pesticide technicians and/or private pesticide applicators. The type of applications that a person may perform is dependent on the applicator’s certification.
There are also various categories and sub-categories for which New York State certified pesticide applicators are permitted to perform treatments, such as within homes, buildings, and food processing facilities. These certifications not only assure safety, but they educate people and businesses about the laws concerning pest control in New York.
Are pesticides necessary?
Pesticides, when properly used for the control of insects, fungi, weeds, and nematodes, and as defoliants, desiccants, and plant regulators and for related purposes, are valuable, important and necessary to the welfare, health and economic well-being of people.
How do I know if I have a pest problem?
In many instances, pest problems are obvious. For example, when you see a mouse running across the floor or ants crawling all over your kitchen counter, there is clearly an issue that needs to be addressed. However, not all pest problems are so obvious. You may hear scratching noises in the middle of the night, find damage to stored food in the pantry, or maybe there’s a bad odor in your basement. Other signs of pests include chewed holes in walls or furniture, droppings, tracks or a trail of grease on carpets or flooring. If you see any of the signs above, it’s important to find out what’s going on before the issue gets worse.
How do pests get inside my house?
No home or structure is 100% airtight and there are a multitude of ways pests can find a way inside. The three most common ways pests get inside our homes are through structural defects, with deliveries, and by being unknowingly transported in by people and pets. In many instances, you may not even know pests have invaded your space until considerable damage has occurred.
Pests like ants invade homes through the tiniest of cracks and crevices on the foundation. Flies and mosquitoes often get inside through improperly sealed doors and windows. Mice and rats can use spaces around pipe ways and electrical penetrations to enter homes. Mice and rats are quiet and fast, so a door left open for only a few minutes is easy access for them. Open and improperly sealed garage doors are also a common entry point for pests, especially crickets and rodents.
Pests like bed bugs are typically transported inside by family and guests, fleas and ticks by pets, and roaches from deliveries.
Why should I continue pest control service if I no longer see pests?
Recurring pest control helps detect early signs of pest activity, prevents pests from entering your space, and reduces the chance of infestation. Over time, preventing infestations and pest issues early can be more cost-effective than waiting for a potential problem to occur.
Can I treat pests myself instead of hiring a professional?
Dealing with pests on your own is possible, but there are many benefits to hiring a professional. Pesticides purchased online or from the store are different from pesticides available to licensed professionals. DIY treatments can be ineffective or even dangerous. Hiring a professional will give you the best results in terms of safety and effectiveness, as well as peace of mind.
How can I prevent pests from coming back?
All homes are vulnerable to pests. The most effective method to stop pests from coming back into the home is to have year-round protection from a professional pest control company. Professional pest control technicians can use exclusion services and exterior treatments to reduce the likelihood of pests ever making it into your home or business. There is no guarantee you will never see a pest again, but you can rest assured that the pest population will be dealt with before it can become an infestation.
Termite Control FAQ’s
Why Choose Paramount for Termite Treatment?
Paramount understands the nature of termites and the damage they cause.
Knowing the difference between repellent and non-repellent insecticides, and which should be used to treat specific pests, is a significant part of professional pest management. Paramount knows termite behavior, biology, and the proper treatment methods to effectively eliminate and manage termites in any type of structure.
It all begins with an inspection of your property to gather the information we need to design a solution and present you with the options in a pleasant and professional manner. Termite control is one of our specialties and we only use the most advanced methods and materials available today. In addition, all of our termite management programs are backed by a re-treatment warranty protecting your home against re-infestation.
Why Choose the Trelona ATBS Termite Baiting System?
Large bait load, containerized for safety, kills termite colonies, proven track record.
Trelona ATBS is a time tested and proven termite elimination system that is installed around the immediate exterior of your home to provide long-term protection against damaging termites. The Trelona system is a viable alternative to traditional liquid chemical treatments and has far less impact on the environment. Depending on the situation, the Trelona ATBS System can be initially installed as a monitoring system or directly baited from day one.
How does Trelona ATBS actually work to control termites?
Termites are constantly foraging in soil looking for food, and their preferred meal is wood…like the wood holding our homes together. Due to its large and innovative station design, termites find Trelona ATBS bait stations fast. Once termites find a station, they begin feeding on the cellulose matrix tablets within the Trelona Compressed Termite Bait cartridges, which termites prefer over the wood that homes are built of. Termites then travel back and forth to the colony in shelter (mud) tubes, sharing the bait containing Novaluron, a fast-acting insect growth regulator, with their nest-mates. As feeding on the bait continues and more and more termites are affected, the termite colony starts to die and is eventually eliminated. As a result, Trelona ATBS achieves on-going structural protection through termite colony elimination.
How and where are stations installed around my home?
Trelona Termite Bait Stations are strategically installed around the entire exterior perimeter of your home, typically in the flower beds or soil abutting the foundation. The amount of stations required for proper coverage is determined by the size and layout of the home. Using an electric drill or gas powered auger, your Paramount Termite Specialist will excavate small holes in the soil about 2 feet out from the foundation, and each hole is approximately 3 inches in diameter by about 1 foot deep. After the holes are created, the stations are inserted into the cavities. The termite attractants and/or active bait cartridges are housed inside each station, which is buried in the soil to prevent access by children, wildlife, and pets. Only the top of each station and tamper-resistant cap are visible after installation.
What happens after the stations are installed?
Depending on the situation, the Trelona ATBS System can be initially installed as a monitoring system or directly baited from day one. When initially installed as a monitoring system, stations are checked quarterly for termite activity. When your Paramount Termite Specialist identifies sufficient termite activity in any station, as the label requires, active termite killing bait is placed inside infested stations and monitored until there is no evidence of active termites in the stations.
When initially installed with active termite killing bait, Trelona ATBS are inspected at least once per year. This reduces feeding disturbance and the number of required site visits compared to other termite baiting products that require shorter inspection intervals. The annual inspection label also gives us the flexibility to check the stations more frequently if heavy termite activity is present.
How long will Trelona Compressed Termite Bait last in a station?
When installed according to the label, most Trelona ATBS termite bait cartridges can remain effective for 2 or 3 years under typical conditions. Aside from actual consumption of bait by termites, the length of time the bait will last in a station largely depends on environmental conditions, which can lead to a shorter life span.
Are Trelona Compressed Termite Bait cartridges ever replaced?
Per the label, when more than 1/3 of the bait matrix within a single cartridge is consumed by termites, or is missing, the cartridge will be replaced. Tests have shown that bait cartridges with certain types of mold and/or fungus can be even more palatable to foraging termites, so the call for replacement for such stations will be made by your Paramount Termite Specialist during routine inspections. However, bait cartridges with excessive mold or fungus will be replaced.
What is Novaluron, the active ingredient in Trelona Compressed Termite Bait cartridges?
Novaluron is a chitin synthesis inhibitor, also known as an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR). Once Novaluron is in an insect’s system through direct contact with the bait, or transferred from another infected insect, it blocks the development of chitin (skin) so that the insect cannot form a new exoskeleton or shed the old one. Thus, affected insects die during the molting (growing) process, leaving no replacement insects to sustain the colony. Adult termite workers don’t live very long, and without new workers, the termite soldiers and reproductives (future kings and queens) soon starve because they rely on workers to bring them food. Novaluron has been proven to be effective against termites as a result of many laboratory and field trials.
Will Trelona Compressed Termite Bait contaminate plants or my home?
As mentioned above, the active ingredient in Trelona Compressed Termite Bait used inside the Trelona ATBS stations is in a pesticide group called Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs). IGRs are considered some of the safest pesticides to use as they only affect undeveloped insects that contact or feed on the material. Even if by some chance the active ingredient leaches from the bait into the soil, it will not have any effect on nearby plants or the insects that visit them. If a pet or child dug up a station and ate the bait inside it will not cause any more harm than eating a piece of paper covered in dirt and fungus.
